Canal Cleanup

The Sustainable Innovation Foundation is organizing a major cleanup effort along the Leidsche and Oude Rijn canals. In collaboration with Recycle Valley, the Province of Utrecht, the Rijnland Water Board, the municipalities of Katwijk, Oegstgeest, and Leiden, and the Carel Nengerman Fund, we’re taking action to remove litter in and around the water. This initiative is part of a broader mission: clean waterways from the Dunes to Germany!

Every year, more than 50 million kilos of litter end up in our environment. It’s time to take action! Together with local residents and other participants, we’ll clean a stretch of no less than 64 kilometers – both on foot and by boat. The route is divided into sections of 2 to 4 kilometers, which takes about two hours to walk and clean per segment.
