Suriname is the most forested country in the world. But the forest is under serious threat - the plants and animals that live there, and the people who live there.

On November 25, 1975, Suriname became an independent republic. To mark this anniversary, Naturalis is honoring Suriname's natural environment with an exhibition, events, and educational programs titledĀ The forest of Suriname.

Indigenous people and Maroons have lived in the forest for centuries and have a unique relationship with nature, where caring for the forest is self-evident: "We care for the forest, and the forest cares for us." Come and discover the story of Suriname's forest from the perspective of all its inhabitants.

The exhibition 'The forest of Suriname' can be visited from Saturday October 11, 2025. Nature has a voice. Come and listen.
