Googermolen
Contact
The 'Googermolen' was built in 1717 and drains the 'Googerpolder' near Oude Wetering. It is a round, brick polder mill that stands out in the landscape along the 'Ringvaart' canal of the Haarlemmermeer.
Over the years, the mill was damaged several times—by fire and a broken shaft, among other things—but it was repaired each time.
Until 1956, the mill was responsible for draining the polder. Today, this task is handled by an electric pumping station next to the mill, and the mill serves as a backup. After restoration, the mill was festively reopened by Princess Beatrix of the Netherlands.
It is worth noting that this is the largest brick-built polder mill in the Rijnland Water Board’s jurisdiction.
