Theater de Generator

Committed theater, dance, performance art, festivals, and more. Don't miss Theater De Generator, the theater of necessity.

The Leiden Theatre and Production House De Generator is an activist, presenting, and producing theatre and a place for collective camaraderie. A theatre of necessity. Leiden's small venue and the only theatre in the Netherlands that exclusively programmes and produces socially engaged theatre. Professional social theatre is used as a means to make the world more just and inclusive, with solidarity and safety for marginalized groups as a priority. A platform where creators, audiences, and society are important. Moreover, it is a platform intended for the further development and innovation of theatre as a form.

De Generator is a presenting platform, production house, and incubator for innovative creators from diverse backgrounds: ethnic, cultural, historical, gender, class, and sexual orientation. Creators whose focus isn't on having the perfect resume, diplomas, or the right networks within the theatre world, but on the story they want to tell now, the social impact they want to make, and where they want to go professionally. A stage where the audience doesn't leave the space unmoved and unchanged, and where they are (often literally) made part of the topics being discussed. The audience continues the conversation and action after leaving the building.

A stage where theatre as a form is given the opportunity to grow by offering space for labellessness, unconventional experiments, and crossover techniques.
