The Doesmolen has been watching over the Doespolder alongside the Kalkmolen since 2009. But that wasn’t always the case. Before 2009, the Doesmolen operated on its own and was built at the same time the Doespolder was created in 1627.
Although the swing mill was very small, it was inhabited. It wasn’t until 1875 that a miller’s house was built next to it.
It worked out well that the Doesmolen got a mill next to it. The Doesmolen’s paddlewheel had run dry due to falling water levels. The arrival of the Kalkmolen solved this problem because it created a two-stage system.
