In 1779, 'Lijkermolen 2' was built alongside its neighbor, 'Lijkermolen 1', with a single goal: to drain the pond and maintain the water level at the proper height.

Because the mill is located right next to the public road, the span of the sails was kept smaller—a clever adaptation to the surroundings.

Like its neighbor, the Lijkermolen 2 is a 12-sided brick polder mill. The mason was convinced that twelve sides are stronger than a round mill body, and the result is unique: together with Lijkermolen 1, this is the only mill of this type in the entire Netherlands.

Yet there is one striking difference between the two. Since 1926, the Lijkermolen 2 has been powered by an electric motor, something its neighbor has never had. Two windmills, one story, each with its own character.

Visits are by appointment only or when the mill is in operation. The living quarters are private.
