Katwijk 'en plein air' 2024

Stichting Kunstvereeniging Katwijk organises the 11th edition of Katwijk ‘En Plein Air’ from 29 June to 6 July 2024. Where artists paint in the open air, celebrating the unique beauty of Katwijk's landscape and cultural heritage.

From the DUNA studio, eighteen professional artists from home and abroad will spend a week in the open air from 29 June to 6 July capturing a variety of subjects on canvas. Naturally (especially in good weather), beach, sea, sky and dunes are a favourite subject. But in recent years, many other places in Katwijk and its surroundings have also featured. The artists stay at the Koningshof in Rijnsburg and will probably find inspiration in Rijnsburg and Valkenburg partly because of this. Recent years have shown that they are creative in finding special locations.

The artists stay at the Koningshof in Rijnsburg and will probably find inspiration in Rijnsburg and Valkenburg partly because of this. Recent years have shown that they are creative in finding special locations.

This year it is again a varied bunch, each with his or her own style and technique. Some have participated before, such as Corry Kooy, Hans Versfelt and Jacob Kerssemakers, Pepijn van den Wall Bake and Michiel Schepers. New names include Olga Silivanchyk, Carola Schapals and Maarten Welbergen, also known from the programme "The new Vermeer" where he was winner of the "self-portrait" section.

Jacob Kerssemakers will make small works on request in watercolour technique during the week. People can specify a place in Katwijk, Rijnsburg, Valkenburg, Leiden, Oegstgeest, Wassenaar and in between. "There are many places that are not going to make the history books or tourist leaflets, but hold a special place in our memories for ourselves. I am curious about such places and would like to draw a picture of them."

After the painting week, the works will be on display and for sale at the DUNAatelier until 22 September. The DUNAatelier will be open Tuesday to Friday from 1.30pm to 4.30pm after 6 July, admission is free.
