Byvanck-lezing 2026

The nineteenth Byvanck Lecture will be delivered by Naoíse Mac Sweeney, Professor of Classical Archaeology (Greek) at the University of Vienna. Her lecture, in English, focuses on Greek cities in Cilicia, in southeastern Turkey. They are considered settlements founded from the 8th century BC onwards by migrants who brought their own culture and identity with them. However, archaeological research has found indications that these settlements originated from a different basis after all.
